”I often made tea to treat the visitors at the art gallery , then I drank tea while painting and thus I learned something from drinking tea.” Master Tu smiled saying: “I went to the high mountain tea garden to learn how to plant tea that my art gallery business was put aside.”
It was not enough to spend a handsome amount to collect the prize awarded tea; Mr. Tu Tsung-Ho further paid a visit to the original source of the tea industry to learn the knack of making, roasting and even the planting of tea from the tea planter and roasting masters. To train from the very beginning, the tea roasted by Mr. Tu was awarded with all kinds of prizes and he was elected two terms of the director general of the Chinese Art of Tea Craft Union. Those days when he climbed high mountains to pick the tea leaves, Mr. Tu had the chance to build up firm friendship with tea planters which has become the sturdy foundation of the Hanlin International Enterprise Co., Ltd., later. The tea leaves have been cautiously cared when it was still on the tree top since Hanlin insists on offering high quality tea and devotes to promote the best tea of Taiwan to the whole world.
Scholar Tea
Hanlin International Enterprise Co., Ltd. has insisted in making the best tea drink for more than three decades ever since it was established in 1986. From the tea ceremony house to tea restaurant, Hanlin plays an important role to lead Taiwan tea cultural trend and put a touch of the scholar spirit in tea drink to develop the domestic and overseas market.
The founder Mr. Tu Tsung-Ho is an artist, photographer and best known as a tea mania. Having started from art gallery, Mr. Tu was obsessed by the lingering smell of Taiwan’s high mountain tea and fell into the tea wonderland.

The name Hanlin Tea House was taken for the meaning of “gathering talents at Hanlin” when it was established by Mr. Tu Tsung-Ho in 1986. There are always the good smelled scholar teas offered, also, Hanlin was the first store to offer cold tea drink by hand shaken of the good quality Taiwanese tea to put out Bubble Black Tea, Emerald Green Tea, and later the Pearl Milk Tea that became a sensational and famous tea drink of the whole Taiwan.
”I am proud to say that the tea drink of Hanlin has all been made from the original whole tea leaves” according to Mr. Tu. To conquer the taste buds of Tainan people, it is impossible to scamp and stint the materials because the tea drinkers can tell the taste and quality of the tea instantly. Mr. Tu always blends and roasts the tea by himself since he considers it important the dignity of the tea master. In order to let the taste of the tea much more harmonic, the cost has never been the first thing he thought about. He insists in using the original tea with one-tip two-leaf which is quite different from those who use shredded or cheap tea so as to bring down the cost.

Hanlin has never applied the low price strategy ever since it was established even the group has extended to the operation of bubble tea brand, which is the operation philosophy of the tea house at the innermost layer, said Mr. Tu Tsung-Ho.
